Modus Operandi

It's been a while since I've played in public or released a recording. A big reason for this is that I've done a major overhaul of my setup.
I've been a Mac head for years, but because my four-year-old mac laptop was so underpowered (especially for OS X), I've been using a PC laptop for performances. I finally decided to put the old mac laptop to rest, and upgraded to a new one.
Not only that, but I've been using MOTU's Digital Performer for over a decade and a half, and just recently switched over to Apple's Logic Pro Studio. Logic Pro is amazing, especially for electronic music production.
- It's very loop friendly
- allows for easy freezing and unfreezing of tracks (a way of alleviating the processor when it's overwhelmed)
- comes with a slew of samplers (including classic keyboards), synths (analog modeled, physical modeled, vocoder), effects, and even a convolution reverb (a more realistic but processor intensive type of reverb)
- and distributive processing (allows me to enslave the processors of other computers on my network when I start running over on my laptop, although I haven't tested this yet)
And that's just the tip of the iceberg, so there's been something of a learning curve getting used to new hardware, new software, and even a new OS (the laptop came with Leopard installed). But that only means that good things are on the horizon.
